What is something others do that sparks your admiration?
I’ve always been so proud of people who do for a living what they always wanted to do for their life.
I have an old friend named Matt who is a drummer, and when he graduated college with a music degree, he became a professional drummer and makes his living doing what he loves.
One guy I went to high school with is the bassist for Hoobastank, a girl who was in my choir changed her name and now she’s a world renowned opera singer.
Other people I went to school with are actual millionaires with multiple houses. Some are lawyers who travel the world every other month.
I’m proud of them.
I am proud and happy for them that they get to do exactly what the want to be doing to earn a living.
But the pride also brings me some hurt, because I can so easily see how far behind I am from so many people who once stood right beside me.
I didn’t exactly have a failure to launch, I think I just had a failure to believe I am capable of having a good life, the kind of life I want to have.
I’m not getting any younger, so I have to make sure that every day, little by little, I am doing things to make my life better. I’m doing things to save money (really save money), to improve my physical and mental health, to improve my relationships, and to make me feel better about myself in general.
I admire the people who are already doing that, and who have been good enough to themselves to have been doing it their whole lives.
One day, maybe, I’ll get there, too.
