They all stared at the horizon with smiles on their faces, smiles wide as miles.
There used to be corn here, rows and rows of it stretching as far as the eyes could see, and now?
Solar panels.
“They’ll save money! The planet! It’s clean energy!”
But the corn is gone.
While they smile at their solar field, I hike up to the farm stand. Tomatoes and peppers in abundance. Cucumbers, green beans, apples.
A man steps up behind me.
“Beautiful, ain’t it? Look at that bright yellow glow!”
I remember a different bright yellow, and it tasted so sweet.
