Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?

When I was little, I think we were all patriotic.

I think that as long as we didn’t have parents at home with rather strong and conflicting beliefs against living nicely with people in society, we might still all be patriotic.

We all learned to salute the flag, to stand for the national anthem, to remove our hats when we sang it, to respect our flag when we hang it.

And now?

Now I see America broken in half.

I’ve seen too many Ford-F150s with these massive American flags on poles right along with their MAGA flag.

Now, all I can think of when see an American flag is:

Ignorant. Trumplover.

There is NO REASON to be proud to be an American right now. I am utterly ashamed to be an American today, and if I had the means to, I would have moved to the Netherlands years ago, and fuck how cold it can get there, it can’t get as cold as half of America’s hearts.

I can’t love America when half of its population elected a criminal rapist to the presidency.

I can’t love an America where brown people get harassed for being brown and gay people get killed because someone doesn’t like seeing rainbows and happiness.

Fuck all of you who think this is okay.

I will burn bridges, break friendships, and lose family members over this, but I will never, ever support Trump or a single one of his mindless, spineless, MAGA Trumploving ignorant fucks.

I will not hang an American flag because I am not proud to be an American.

Why don’t I just leave?

I’d love to, but can’t afford it. Like 90% of the people in this “wonderful” country.

So no, I am not patriotic. I am not proud of our country. But I hope I can be someday.
