eternally – 100/1000

“I’ll love you forever.”

“Well, I think forever is a bit too long,” she said, peeling a patch of his greenish skin off his shoulder as they talked.

“But I can be with you forever,” he said.

She touched his face and then grimaced when more skin fell away at her touch, he was rotting right before her eyes.

“I don’t think you’re going to be here much longer, babe,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter what I look like, does it?”

“Well, not so much, but you need to be all in one piece.”

“I think I lost a piece.”… Read the rest

hush – 99/1000

“We don’t have enough to form a coven,” the old witch snarled.

“We will, look, she’s right over there.”

“You mean to take some girl enjoying her day in the park and bring her over to us?”

“What choice do we have? We’ll grab her and drag her into the woods, it would take seconds.”

“But someone might see us!”

“We have a demon to conjure! Now, do as I say and go get that girl!”

The old witch dashed into the field and dragged back the girl.

“I put a hush spell on her.”

“Smartest thing you’ve done today.”… Read the rest

not today, bride – 98/1000

There she stood in her white dress with her father on her arm, a beautiful bouquet of flowers in her hands.

It was her wedding day, the day she had spent her whole life waiting for, and now the time had finally come.

All of the planning, all of the anticipation, the wait was finally over and she was a bride, and about to be a wife.

She was about to be this man’s wife.

The doors opened, the music played, and she walked forward, but no one in the room stood and all was quiet.

He hadn’t shown up.… Read the rest

leaving – 97/1000

We have had enough of these goodbyes.

Remember when they were tearful, but full of love, hugs, kisses, the kind of goodbyes you don’t want to suffer through?

Maybe I liked those better than the quiet quitting of our relationship, the way you just backed out like you didn’t feel like going to the game.

A game is all I’ve ever felt like, a person being played, a pawn in someone else’s life.

She doesn’t fit here, go there.

No, that’s not right, either, move here.

Until I’m knocked off the board, and you’re picking up the pieces and leaving.… Read the rest

tiktok – 96/1000

“Look at this,” he said, brandishing a flat, shiny rock.

“A relic,” the other man said.

“They called it a cell phone,” the woman whispered, her voice sounding hungry as she reached out for the object.

“Now, now,” the first man said, “Finders keepers.”

“I don’t think so,” the woman said, and then hollered a low grunt as she slammed her weight into him, sending the phone spinning across the floor.

The other man picked up the phone and began running, but it wasn’t long before he heard the woman on his tail.

“Give it! They had something called TikTok!”… Read the rest

bury the hatchet – 95/1000

I’m ready for this to be over.

I am ready to dig down deep into the dirt with my bare hands and bury every last bit of you and me.

I don’t want to fight or argue anymore, I don’t want to look at you and feel such ugly feelings.

When the heart breaks it’s hard and things can get weird, and they should be if it was a real love.

It should hurt to lose it if it was real.

But it’s over now, so we’ll put it all behind us, bury it deep, and keep on walking forward.… Read the rest

abundance – 92/1000

When she heard them stirring in bed, she raced up the stairs to greet them.

She licked a forehead, she pounced on feet, she meowed them both wide awake and then bounded downstairs for her breakfast.

She was a good girl, and she knew it.

They were always holding her, petting her, giving her love and affection that some need in abundance, and some need none at all.

She needed an abundance of love, so she was in the right home, with someone who had an abundance of love to give.

What an incredible nine lives she had to spend.… Read the rest

easter – 89/1000

In her dream she saw everything.

She saw the baggie of loose change, the different kinds of chocolate, the rainbow of eggs spread out on the kitchen table.

Her mom filled egg after egg, and hid them easily all around the house.

Then, she took the bag of flour and dipped three fingers in, then dabbed them on the floor, one after the other, more than the eggs, she made little bunny footprints to lead the way.

It wasn’t a dream.

It was just my amazing mom doing the best she could for a daughter who loves her so much.… Read the rest

how i win – 88/1000

“What’s wrong with her? It’s almost like she doesn’t want you to be happy no matter who you’re with. She only cares about herself.”

“I know, that’s why I’m done with her.”

“You’re not going to say anything back? She said horrible things to you, she was a total bitch to you!”

“No, I’m not a confrontational person like that.”

“How can you let her get away with that? She roasted you!”

“It’s fine.”

“How can you handle being torn apart like that?

“People look at me and think they know all about me, and that is how I win.”… Read the rest
